I've always been told that the eyes and nose were the two things that weren't real. That they couldn't be saved. ???

The nose is the real skin. The nose pad is a very thin piece of skin. One little slip and you have a hole in the skin. The meat is not as easy to flesh away from the nose as it is the rest of the hide. If the taxidermist leaves any meat inside the pad, the nose will deform, pull, crack or whatever. You can cover the nose with epoxy sculpt and roll a tool across it that makes the imprints of a live deers nose on it, but I'm not real fond of it.

Locally, I would use Williams (Melvin is his first name I think) in Headland. My next one will go to our very own Artistic Whitetails as his work is among the best in the business. I've also been to Stan Gross's shop and his work is very good...award winning I believe.

Another satisfied customer of Lynn Hammock.
I didn't know he was still around, He mounted a bass for me around 1980 while I was at AU that still looks good to this day. I had other fish mounted by others in that same time frame that have long been gone.

Ive been very happy with the buck my wife killed that lynn did and have personally seen another club members trophy room with roughly 20 of lynn's mounts done over the last 2 decades and they all still look great. Another vote for Lynn Hammock

I'm familiar with Lynn Hammock near Auburn and Chad Cooper in Pace. Both do superb work. If I ever get a fish done, I'll probably make the 4 hr drive to let Lynn do it (best I've ever seen).

Chad mounted one for me in 1994 that still looks great today.

If I'm getting an animal mounted I sure ain't going to just "try someone out". The good ones will have PLENTY of good reviews.
