Really leaning towards a cur but I also like the mountain feists. Doesn't need papers and not looking to spend a small fortune my son turns 5 in March and he is getting about ready to start squirrel hunting with me and I'd like to get him a dog

Patterdale Terrier. They are great family pets but also have a killer instinct. They love to hunt and will hunt whatever you train them to. Compact and convenient. I watched one kill a coon one day and trail a deer the next.

My dad has a feist. Cool little dog. He will tree a skwerl and bark when he finds a deer but doesn't track a deer. Just runs around till he stumbles on it. Even retrieves a couple of doves.

I have a male and female that are a little over 1 year old. Original mountain curs. They are both ready to take to the woods. They tree yard squirrels with my finished dog. They are out of Mountain state Geronimo.I have $500 in each one and I'll take that for the pick. If you're interested PM me

I've got a pup from 2 of Tim's dog's and they are jamb up. My fiest does a great job but I don;t get to hunt her like she needs to be. She loves it.

Just a word of advice if you plan on hunting a lot this year a started dog should make it. If you don't have a lot of time to put the dog in the woods you would be better off to spend a little more and get one that is already going good. Some started dogs make it and some don't. If the dog has what it takes the main thing is to give it woods time to let it figure things out. My finished dog is the best one I have ever owned and he learned it all without a finished dog to hunt with. I use to think you were better off to have a pup trainer to run with them but I learned a while back if you put the shoe leather behind them they will learn a lot more doing it alone.

Just remember that finished dogs aren't cheap. Somebody has fed, taken care of and spent a bunch of time with them to get them to that point. I'd start with a well started dog( that doesn't mean one that knows how to lead and load and that's it) and hunt it hard until next kill season and you should have the beginnings of a nice dog.

"Deer hunting used to be the pinacle of hunting-what you graduated to after learning to hunt small game. Trying to throw a kid into stand hunting, without having ever learned to HUNT is probably an effort in fultility." BSK

I'm talking to a guy on here about a 1 1/2 year old sloans mountain feist. Hasn't been hunted much but is from decent blood. I talked to Tim earlier seems like a jam up good guy.

I prefer pups myself. Finished dogs are to high and normally there is a reason someone is getting rid of a started dog. I don't like paying good money for someone's cull. Maybe I expect more out of my dogs than most but if your gonna buy a dog that started or finished hunt with the dog at least 2-3 times to make sure it's what you think it is. Some people tend to talk up their dogs with out realizing it and others just straight up lie about them.
